When you host your first baby shower…

Over the weekend I had the honor to host the baby shower for a very special person in my life. She informed me that her and her husband were planning on decorating their nursery in woodland theme, and I knew I had to run with it. For starters, I like to think of my general aesthetic as being very nature-driven (omg, so many houseplants, just ask my husband), with the flare of an old-timey apothecary (otherwise known as “Mad Scientist,” if you ask me). Essentially, it left me with a lot of brewing (pun intended) ideas and a bit of a head start when it comes to decor.

I love hosting, it’s something I’ve sort of gained a reputation for over the years, and hosting this baby shower allowed me the space to spread my wings—so to speak—and fly away with it.

Here are some captures from the day for your viewing pleasure:

The invitation...

It all started with this little hipster bear invite, designed by yours truly, to set the theme.

THE space...

The star of the day was the dessert table. The shower was held between lunch and dinner, which meant a lot of finger foods and sweet treats. I’m so grateful for the help of our friends who brought additions to the table. I provided the cake and the s’mores cake pops, but the apple slices, caramel apples, pecan hedgehogs and downright adorable acorns were offered and prepared by guests.

My first vegan cake: Vanilla with chai spiced frosting. Turned out great!

The theme extended into the activities and guest favors. I have a lot of my own air plants around the house (they’re just so easy to use!). In my shower prep research, I saw a lot of succulents as guest favors, but my history with succulents in particular has been rocky, so I opted for air plants instead. I totally lucked out on these flower pot-esque glass votives as the plant’s carrier. A little moss pillow, and they’re good to go!

THE activities...

THE Extras...

My favorite extra touch not picture were the wildlife sounds (peaceful forest, to be exact) I set to play on my Google Home, which filled our space with crickets, light rainfall, and little scurrying critters.
